This is an article presenting the case of Oscar Grant who was killed in 2009 by a white policemen. There are many details that help explain the complexity of the situation and the numerous consequences of the situation in general. Not only was Oscar treated horribly from the White policemen who knocked him on the ground and shot him in the head for just explaining his point of view, but he was bombarded by policemen for defending himself in a fight. According to the policeman, “the 33-year-old claims he mistakenly used his service revolver when he wanted to grab a taser.”  This is an iconic detail because officers know the difference between a gun and a taser so it seems like it was a cover up for the fact that he had just shot this man for no reason. This is an issue that occurs in a lot of instances where policemen seem to “hide” what they were actually intending to do, even though it was wrong.

This is an on-going public policy issue because we are constantly trying to change the way policemen act toward colored people and vice versa. There are constant deaths that are happening each and every day for no reason and it is taking over are society. Thus, the policemen in the trials aren’t getting the sentences/punishment they deserve making it seem like society does not care how colored people (Black people especially) are treated. In these articles, they discuss how the Oscar Grant story relates to the Trayvon Martin case and how these problems keep arising.
