The public policy of this issue is that we need to outwardly discuss the view of how African American people are being treated in society in regards to crime and the police. There have been so many instances regarding this issue recently and it doesn’t seem like its going to be rectified. In my class, race, class, gender, and crime we discuss multiple events like this that go on in our society every single day. Racism occurs on a daily basis and people think that it is not known anymore but it is and it something that needs to be addressed constantly if we want to remedy it anytime soon.

I think the focus for my project is that I want to make it known to society how important the issue of equality is in general. This is an issue that has been in our lives for many years now and it never seems to go away. Yes it might have improved to some degree, but through these unfair acts of violence in the past few years specifically toward African Americans, the problem has rose to new levels. The increased amount of violence that has been occurring has escalated in the recent years and it just shows how racism and equality are still a struggle in society today. I do think this event is known to the public and it valued in a certain way by certain people in society, but there isn’t a collective status of people to actually create action or resolve the problem. I don’t know if it has that “neon” factor to it yet (even though I see it). I don’t think a lot of people are shocked yet by these incidents even though there is the reasoning component. I think what needs to happen in order to get a public policy change for this issue is to for example put cameras on police’s uniforms in order to really show what happened in the incidence and what the victim did or did not do. We need this because in a lot of these issues we don’t know the actual truth of what happened or have mixed stories. This would help to see the truth, however we still need to fix the bigger issue of the conflict between whites (specifically policemen) and blacks.
